The Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (Summer EBT) is a new federal nutrition program that provides grocery benefits during the summer months to families with children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. Summer EBT was authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 as a permanent, nationwide program beginning in the summer of 2024. Summer EBT is based on student enrollment during the 2023-2024 school year. Students may be eligible for summer nutrition assistance. SEBT is intended to reduce hunger and food insecurity for students who lose access to free and reduced-priced meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP), during the summer when school is not in session. How do I Apply? SEBT benefit applications can be completed online or you can contact DCBS at 855-306-8959 with questions. The online application will be available at https://KYSEBT.ky.gov/ or can be accessed through https://kynect.ky.gov/benefits/ starting June 22, 2024. Who is eligible? The following school-aged students (ages 6-17 as of August 1, 2023) are automatically approved for SEBT benefits and do not need to apply. Students that have received SNAP, KTAP and/or Kinship Care for at least one (1) month since July 1, 2023. Students who do not fall into these categories but are within the income eligibility limits can apply for SEBT benefits online. June, July and August Benefit Amount! Households can expect to receive a one-time (1) lump sum issuance of $120 ($40 per summer month) per eligible student, if approved. For questions, contact DCBS at 855-306-3959 or visit kysebt.ky.gov.

6th grade gifted and talented students from Muhlenberg South Middle School created, donated, organized, and delivered "care bags" to the Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital Thursday, May 9th. These bags were created to help ease the fear of young children admitted to the emergency room due to an unforeseen event. Students created bags with stuffed animals, toys, games, puzzles, and cards to give to children so they know others are thinking of them and wishing them the best. This community service project was created to teach students the importance of being an engaged citizen in their community.
