Dual Credit
Dual Credit and General Ed. Certified
General Ed. Certification requires 33 college credit hours of coursework from certain general education categories. The attachment below includes Early College dual credit course offerings and requirements and information regarding Gen. Ed. Certification. Additionally, MCC registration forms are included in the packet. Requirements are subject to change.
Early College
Seniors may apply to participate in the Early College Senior Academy and take college courses at the Central City campus of MCC. Students will take a group of classes as a cohort, earning 33 credits. Students will attend MCC Central City Campus periods 1, 2, and 3. They will report back to MCHS afterward, where they will take their needed courses and have study hall/teacher aide placements. Students who have taken one or more of the classes listed on the course schedule may substitute another online class or take another high school class.
Students must turn in the completed application to the guidance office by April 15.

Dual Credit Courses Taught at MCHS
Students may also take courses which are dual credit. This means students receive college credit as well as high school credit. These courses will post to the student's college transcript and will be the beginning of his/her college GPA. Special care should be taken to ensure students do well in these courses for this reason. Dual credit courses are offered by MCHS faculty who have met the requirements of the college and online taught by college faculty. Beginning with the 2024-25 school year courses cost approximately $90 per credit hour. A 3-hour course would cost around $270. This is a significant savings compared to the cost if taken directly from the college.

Governor's Dual Credit Scholarship
The governor's scholarship for each school year will pay for seniors to take 2 dual credit courses. Juniors will be able to use the scholarship for a total of 2 dual credit courses their junior and/or senior year. Students must view a financial aid training and meet the minimum requirements for the college to be eligible. Students must complete the request to use this scholarship in their KHEAA account each year they use it.
