Muhlenberg County Schools brought together students at the West Kentucky Regional Technical Center for an inspiring day of learning and innovation at . Fourth and fifth grade Gifted and Talented students from across all elementary schools gathered for this unique, hands-on experience designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and real-world skills.
Throughout the day, students worked in teams to design and produce their own commercials, combining critical thinking with creativity as they developed ideas, wrote scripts, and brought their visions to life. In addition, students stepped into the role of broadcasters, recording segments alongside Michael and Casey Davis from 107.3. This authentic experience gave students a behind-the-scenes look at media production while strengthening their communication skills.
Leadership development was another key focus of the event. Vickie Yonts led engaging sessions that encouraged students to explore what it means to be a leader, emphasizing teamwork, responsibility, and the importance of using one’s voice to make a positive impact.
Students also had the opportunity to work with Kentucky Educational Television (KET), where they collaborated to create and televise their own news broadcasts. This experience allowed them to apply technology skills while building confidence in public speaking and presentation.
In addition to media and leadership experiences, students engaged in a variety of hands-on science enrichment labs facilitated by the Kentucky Science Center. These interactive sessions sparked curiosity and deepened students’ understanding of scientific concepts through exploration, experimentation, and problem-solving.
Muhlenberg TalentScape 2026 highlighted all five competencies of the district’s Profile of a Learner, as students demonstrated effective communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and leadership throughout the day.
The event was a powerful example of what happens when students are given opportunities to engage in meaningful, authentic learning experiences. By the end of the day, students not only showcased their talents but also strengthened the skills they will carry with them into the future.
