KSA Results

Students of Muhlenberg County Schools participated in the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA) again this past spring to meet state and federal testing requirements. The KSA is an annual exam administered to public school students in grades 3 through 8, 10, and 11. It assesses key content areas, including reading and math (grades 3-8 and 10), science (grades 4, 7, 11), on-demand writing, editing, and mechanics (grades 5, 8, 11), as well as social studies (grades 5, 8, 11).

While the KSA offers valuable insights into student learning, no single assessment should be the sole basis for educational decisions. These results should be considered alongside classroom performance, projects, personalized learning, and school and district-level measures to gain a more comprehensive understanding of a student’s abilities and progress throughout the year.

Muhlenberg County Schools have a lot to celebrate. Here are the highlights of this year’s KSA data release. The overall district score for elementary (56.4), middle (53.8), and high (76.8) all increased from the previous year. Our high school district score saw the largest increase of 17.2 points, from 59.6 to 76.8. In addition to a wonderful increase overall, the high school’s graduation rate moved up to 94.8% following a 91.7% graduation rate last year.

Superintendent Contessa Orr had this to say about the results, “We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our students, staff and families across Muhlenberg County Schools.  We will continue building on this progress by strengthening instruction, fostering positive school environments, and ensuring that every student is equipped with the skills they need for future success. We are so grateful for everyone who plays a role in supporting our students every day!”  The District’s Instructional Supervisor Stacie Jones added,  “The KSA data reflects the intentional work happening in our classrooms every day. We are committed to using these results along with our other data sources to guide our next steps and to continue partnering with our schools to ensure every student can grow."
