Traceable Communications

We want to inform you of a change taking effect on June 27, 2025, due to Senate Bill 181 (SB 181), passed by the Kentucky General Assembly. This new law is designed to improve student safety, communication transparency, and parental engagement.

What is SB 181?
SB 181 sets guidelines for how school personnel may electronically communicate with students. It aims to eliminate unmonitored messaging by ensuring all communication is visible, traceable, and secure.

Key Requirements:

  • Traceable Communication Only: All communication must occur through platforms that create a permanent, reviewable record.

  • Personal Messaging Prohibited: Staff may not use personal text, email, or private messaging apps (e.g., Snapchat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger).

  • Approved Platforms Only: All communication must go through district-approved systems. Our district-approved systems are
Remind, Apptegy, Class Dojo, and Google Suite (District Email, Google Classroom, etc.)

We understand this may change how your student receives information from teachers, coaches, or staff. We’re committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.

In cases where non-school relationships exist—such as babysitting, church groups, or family friends—you may choose to allow personal communication. A special non-school communication form will be available for staff and volunteers, with instructions on use and submission provided by the school.  Below are links to the consent form, frequently asked questions, and a letter from our superintendent regarding SB 181.

Thank you for your continued support as we implement this new law.
